Welcome to my Blog Escapade60 which documents my much-anticipated return to my beloved Europe (Spain & Italy this time) and the UK (Bristol, Dorset, London) - for the first time in three years! Pinch me.
Do check the end of each post for my "Observation of the Day"!
The purpose of this long-awaited trip is to connect with special friends afar, to enjoy an overdue dose of my favourite part of the world, to escape endless rain and forget Covid and the general NZ shambles - and to celebrate my 60th!
The usual mad rush takes place to get work completed, to-do lists ticked off, organisation complete and packing done. Oh-so-rusty on the latter - but I have resolved, with great determination, to travel the lightest I ever have. I have to say there is a measure of success on that front.
NZ Herald Travel have commissioned an article which I finalise alongside packing and prep - a Portuguese Road Trip based on two previous visits to Portugal driving between Lisbon and Porto. Keep an eye open for it in an upcoming issue.
And so, with Indi Cat sorted, my last Omaha sunset for a while captured, my Spanish entry form and QR code completed and downloaded, my article submitted and my passport at the ready, I prepare to board my Emirates flight.

OBSERVATION OF THE DAY:
I think I may have packed too many shoes - but maybe not, there is a suitable shoe for all occasions and I'm sure I will encounter many occasions on this trip for which a particular type of shoe will fit best!
