Night-time magnificence

The walk from Palma to Jill and Peter's home in El Molinar is spectacular - especially when taken as night falls. We timed this one to perfection. Think palm trees, inky skies, the bright lights of cruise ships in port and freight ships out at sea, lively bars and restaurants dotted along the way, waves breaking gently on the shore, night-time beach-goers having fun, marinas with boats bobbing and a wide promenade full of life and energy. Throw in an enormous and very fabulous cathedral and a hauntingly beautiful palace, and you have all you need for one of the best walks of your life!

There is a music festival of some sort happening beneath the cathedral, adding an extra layer of alegria de vivir (joie de vivre in Spanish). Somehow the English translation "joy of life" doesn't engender quite the same sort of  uplifting feeling the foreign phrases do. We bop along beside the lagoon with its fountains and reflections and joyful vibe.

We walk on towards Molinar, but I am continually looking back at that stunning sight behind us.

Onwards we go ...

until we reach Molinar, with it's obelisk all lit up and lovely - this is where we take our swims.

OBSERVATION OF THE DAY:
What is usually a 45 minute walk has taken us almost twice as long, thanks to me stopping every few minutes to take loads of photos and absorb the beauty. It's a magical scene and it is right there in front of me. I sleep easy and dream of castles and palaces and magnificent evening strolls with friends in far off places ... except this was not a dream!
